Last week I was trying to think about what “being present” means to me. The next 5 days quickly flew by with work and family taking up every ounce of energy (and SXSW and Spring Break in the back of my mind). On Monday, I found myself, frankly, mind blown at how the world works.

On Monday nights a friend of mine, Grace, shares a weekly devotional to discuss the role that our belief system shares in the struggles we face in life. I was...

Asparagus is about to hit peak season. Are you ready?

Before Cooking:

  • Pick out a bundle of asparagus that is bright green with closed tips & no dryness, yellowing or wilting. The size of the asparagus will change the cooking time slightly but doesn't really affect tenderness.
  • Store your asparagus properly when you bring it home. I like to remove the rubber bands, stand the spears upright in a mason jar or tall...

Sure they're called forgotten cookies...but I remember the first time I ever made them.

Let me set the stage here:

I'm 13 years old, It's 12:30 pm and I just woke up after sleeping 14 hours. The first thing my teenage self would do is walk to the kitchen and crack about 1 dozen eggs.

I was trying to learn how to crack them with one hand...and when it came to cooking I was a dedicated dude. I probably went through 10+ dozen...

Taco night was a staple in my grandma's house when I was growing up. It seemed like whenever the whole family was together, tacos were on the table.

These were however what I like to call "midwest tacos".

AKA: browned ground beef, fried taco shells, Velveeta queso, Picante sauce, iceberg lettuce and some tomatoes.

I still have a craving for taco night, so to get my fix I like to prepare something good for the body &...

Bold & simple has been the theme in #korKitchen this month. My walnut romesco sauce was inspired by a dish that I made for our Love Your Brain dinner last year.

For me it was at The Grey Plume in Omaha Nebraska, one of the most sustainable restaurants in America.

It's Monday! What did you start today? If you're like me, then you love the beginning of a new week. Monday marks the day that I like to tackle those "bucket list" items. Here's one of our awesome playlists that will keep you motivated. It's not how you started Monday...It's how you finish!

With the holiday’s approaching quickly we tend to let loose and indulge in all the spirits, sweets, and savory dishes that come with it. With those indulgences also come guilt and the evil little voice within our heads that is insanely abusive. We would never let someone else speak to us in such a manner, so isn’t it strange that we let that inner voice talk so much smack? This year let’s take a stance and promise that we will be grateful for...

We all have an emotional connection to the foods we eat. I could give you a list of 20+ foods that remind me of people, places, good experiences and bad experiences. BUT...as I write this I'm eating salt & vinegar potato chips. This means I don't always find what I'm looking for.

What I've learned about myself is if I can prep things ahead of time then I have a dramatically better chance of reaching for the healthy snack vs. the chips.

Eco Footprint.jpg

Kor180 has 7 korValues and this month we are focused on finding ways to #bSustainable. Americans have the largest ecological footprint. On average each American needs 9.5 Hectares to support their lifestyle. Finding ways to reduce that footprint doesn't have to be difficult. Here are 7 ways to leave a smaller footprint.

1. Recycle your old mobile device and computers. Who needs 5 old mobile devices sitting at home? If your mobile...

It's #MusicMonday y'all! Hope these beats keeping you dancing all day long.

We’ve all had those days… You’re late, miss your bus, your boyfriend dumps you, your boss fires you and you wreck your car. Little and big things happen that frustrate you, anger you, and demoralize you. Despite your best efforts you can’t fix that bumper yourself, show your boss what a valuable asset you are, or convince your boyfriend you are the best thing that ever happened to him. That’s not sustainable.

It’s easy to let life’s...

I'm not lying when I say that this is my favorite salad ever.

A sustainable relationship is one that works for you over the long-term.

Too often we compromise in relationships. Compromise is a dirty word.

Compromise means you get half of what you want and feel like the awesome life you wanted to live is slipping away.

Relationships—or people, rather—don’t like compromise.

A relationship is sustainable when you can be your true self in it and that increases the love between you....

We all desire to live our most powerful lives. To be fearless without doubt, superheroes of sorts, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and save the world.

Then life unfolds and challenging experiences change us, experiences as young as childhood. Situations we're unable to remember, understand, or comprehend become "locked" in a subconscious mind. The once fearless superhero's costume is now wrinkled, tossed in the back of our...

We're all human & cravings are a part of life.

For example - If I'm craving a blondie recipe of mine that happens to be loaded with brown butter and sugar, then I have two options:

Life is scary sometimes...well, a lot of the time.

There is so much that is out of our control, often times we find ourselves completely overwhelmed and feeling hopeless. Fear is a nasty emotion. It corrodes the brain and convinces us that we need to feel negative energy around something that hasn't truly happened yet.

You see, fear is never about the present moment; it is always rooted in the past or the future. I like to...

Be Bold...Two strong words, but what do they mean? More importantly, what do they hold for us? Is being bold being strong, worthy and fearless? I would suggest yes... and no.

Webster's dictionary defines bold as "not hesitating or fearful in the face of actual or possible danger; courageous and daring; challenging." Yes, nice definition Webster- but hold on. To be bold, it's possible you may have to "step into" fear and uncertainty....

Typically when we hear the word vulnerability, we immediately think of feeling weak, exposed and unsafe. To feel vulnerable, for most of us, means to be in the position where we can be hurt, rejected or attacked. If we believe this to be the definition of vulnerability, then it is our natural instinct to protect ourselves from ever feeling this emotion. Living life with an intention of avoiding uncomfortable feelings is living life half...

We all want to commit to healthier habits but we don't understand why our motivation doesn't always manifest in physical form.

If you are struggling with your commitments, examine the reason WHY you wanted to commit in the first place. day 2 .jpg

So I made it through Day 2 of my Skinny Limits cleanse. Woke up this morning (Day 3) down another pound. Found that the sweeter, almond milk juice called Crescent Moon is easier for me to do in the morning vs. the evening.

So the unfortunate downside of drinking so much....constant bathroom trips! Green juice upset my tummy a bit toward the end of Day 2, but again nothing major.

Yes, I may have temporarily lost my mind. I agreed to do a 7 day juice cleanse with our Culinary Ninja, Tanner O'Dell. I'm give up food for the next 7 days. After trying Skinny Limits juice at our September Monthly Mixer, I was sold. The juices were tasty & they delivered them to my door.

So we've spent the last 2 years planning, researching, building the Kor180 business model, making investor decks & presentations. All in anticipation for the first day of our "soft" launch on January 14th.

I thought it was going to be cake. I mean who was going to actually come into the studio our first week? We're new, we haven't done any advertising, we'd have plenty of time to tie up loose ends. Man was I wrong.

Maybe not better than sex, but it's damn good.

My name is Tanner and I’m the Culinary Ninja at Kor180.

Our launch event is taking place on January 24th from 5pm-9pm and the menu is out of this world! I’ve partnered with Daily Juice chef Philip Doucette to make sure the Kor180 community is blown away by each bite.

I obviously want you to drool over this menu until I see you at the studio for the launch....
